Competition 1: Make a Snowman (Grades 1-7)

The “Make a Snowman” competition is open to students in Grades 1-7, inviting them to craft a Snowman entirely from recycled materials. Participants are also asked to write a short, 400-word story exploring how climate change might affect a real Snowman and suggesting ways to address environmental challenges. The Snowman should be 60 cm in height, with a width and depth of 30 cm, and consist of at least 70% recycled materials to encourage creativity. This activity helps students develop storytelling skills and fosters an understanding of climate change and sustainability.

Competition 2: “Build a Snow Park” (Grades 8-12)

The “Build a Snow Park” competition challenges students in Grades 8-12 to design and construct a Snow Park model using recycled materials. This model should include a reception area, at least three attractions or rides, and a food and beverage outlet, accompanied by a feasibility plan detailing budgeting, marketing, and maintenance strategies. Specifications for the park model include a 40 cm elevation with a 60 x 70 cm base, using at least 70% recycled materials. This competition provides older students with an opportunity to apply teamwork, project management, and design skills, creating a realistic and sustainable vision for a Snow Park.

Important Dates and Participation

Participation is free, and students can register by emailing Meriam.Fahmy@maf.ae. Key dates include a registration deadline of February 7, 2025, a submission deadline of February 28, 2025, the winner announcement in March 2025, and the display of winning projects in April 2025. Schools can nominate five representatives for the competition by confirming a booking of 300 students between November 2024 and February 7, 2025. Entries are limited to 32 per category on a first-come, first-served basis.
